Final Dissertation and Degree Examination

To graduate, students must prepare and publicly defend a dissertation in English. The thesis must be an original piece of work, strictly free from plagiarism and AI generation, demonstrating the ability to conduct independent research, apply proper methodologies, and develop a rigorous, coherent argument. At the viva, students are expected to maintain eye contact and refrain from reading verbatim from papers or screens. Presentation skills are factored in the overall assessment.

Key Requirements

To successfully complete the dissertation, students must:

  • Formulate a clear, focused research question.
  • Select and critically analyse relevant literature and primary sources.
  • Organise arguments in a cogent and structured manner.

Evaluation Criteria

The graduation board will award 16 credits for the final assessment, evaluating both the written thesis and the oral defense based on:

  • Quality of the written work.
  • Soundness of the research methodology.
  • Critical thinking and intellectual maturity.
  • Clarity of exposition and communication skills.
